Position Summary:
The Youth Religious Education (RE) Leader is responsible for leading engaging, age-appropriate Unitarian Universalist religious education programming for children during Sunday services, as well as preparing curriculum and materials during the week. This part-time role includes 1–2 hours of prep time during the week and 2 hours on Sunday mornings (10:00 AM to 12:00 PM). A volunteer or assistant will be present to support during Sunday sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Sunday morning children’s programming from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at UUFJ.
- Prepare curriculum and activities based on Unitarian Universalist values (1–2 hours per week).
- Create a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment for children of varying ages.
- Collaborate with and supervise a Sunday morning assistant.
- Communicate regularly with the RE Committee and Fellowship leadership.
- Maintain attendance records and support safety protocols.
- Participate in occasional RE team meetings or training (as scheduled in advance).
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children in educational or religious settings.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn about Unitarian Universalist principles and curricula.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Reliability, creativity, and a nurturing presence.
- Ability to plan and lead engaging lessons and activities.
Compensation:
This is a paid, part-time position. Compensation will be based on experience and discussed during the interview process.
